Stenson takes home Tiger’s trophy
Henrik Stenson won the 2019 Hero World Challenge after a strong back nine to finish with a final round 66 and a total of 18 under par, winning by one stroke over defending champion Jon Rahm. Stenson took the lead once and for all following an eagle on the par-5 15th hole to pull away from a crowded leaderboard featuring Rahm, Patrick Reed, Justin Thomas, and tournament host Tiger Woods. The victory is Stenson’s first in the Hero World Challenge, coming in his seventh appearance in the event. Stenson has finished second twice in the event and has six total top-10 finishes in seven starts.
The 2016 Open Championship winner was consistent all week shooting rounds of 69, 67, 68, 66 to emerge victorious over the world-class field of 17 of the top ranked golfers in the world. Stenson, who entered the event through a tournament exemption, walks away with the $1 million winner’s check, moving to eighth all-time on the tournament’s money leader list.
