Military roots run deep at Quicken Loans National
The Quicken Loans National is a celebration of the DC region and our country. Since the inaugural Quicken Loans National in 2007, the tournament has recognized our military for all of their service, domestic and abroad each year. Look back at four of the ways the National recognizes our troops.
Military appreciation program
In 2007, 74 active military personnel made history when they volunteered at the first annual Quicken Loans National. These military volunteers were the first of many to participate at the National, and that tradition lives on 10 years later. The military appreciation program gives service members a chance to meet PGA TOUR players while caddying, starting and announcing during the week of the tournament.
Quicken Loans Shot for Heroes
In 2015, Quicken Loans added a 19th hole to the tournament for the first Shot for Heroes challenge. Shot for Heroes is an opportunity for any fan or player to take a shot at a hole-in-one to raise money for a military charity. More than $235,000 has been raised by fans and players during the challenge, including Rickie Fowler and Tiger Woods, who has raised $11,500.
Heroes Tribute Wall
Displaying flags and seals from each branch of the military, the ‘We Salute Our Heroes’ tribute wall debuted at the Quicken Loans National in 2011. Due to the overwhelming amount of responses, the tournament filled five large canvases with personal messages to the troops from fans and players. After the tournament concluded, sections of the tribute wall were framed and delivered to local military outlets in the Washington, D.C., area.
Complimentary tickets for military
Since inception, the Quicken Loans National has donated 30,000 tickets each year to members of our armed forces. Ten years later, more than 300,000 complimentary tickets have been distributed.
Between the military appreciation program, Heroes Tribute Wall and Shot for Heroes challenge, the Quicken Loans National will continue to honor those who have served our country. Declare your appreciation for our armed forces at the 2016 National.
