Tiger marks return to The Greenbrier Classic this week
This week, Tiger Woods makes his second career appearance at The Greenbrier Classic at The Old White TPC in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Tiger previously played the tournament in 2012, when he shot rounds of 71-69 and missed the cut by one stroke.
The 14-time major champion will be looking to get back on track after missing the cut at the U.S. Open at Chambers Bay two weeks ago. Woods has never missed two consecutive cuts on the PGA TOUR.
Following the U.S. Open, Tiger went to the Bahamas with his family for a short vacation before returning to Florida to practice. On Wednesday, accompanied by swing coach Chris Como, he played in the pro-am and looked relaxed and sharp. Playing with Kentucky governor Steve Beshear, Woods hit every fairway on the front nine and found the first 10 greens in regulation.
Afterward, he said the course was in good shape and expects low scores in the soft conditions. Rain and thunderstorms are in the forecast this week.
“You will have to keep the pedal down,” Tiger said.
Even with his struggles this year, Woods remains positive and has continued to work hard on his swing and short game. He begins first-round play Thursday at 8:10 a.m. ET off the 10th tee with good friend Steve Stricker and the Memorial Tournament champion David Lingmerth. On Friday, the trio is scheduled to start at 1:10 p.m. ET on the first tee.
The Greenbrier course measures 7,287 yards and plays to a par-70 (34-36). The winning share is $1.2 million.
