Tiger makes final preparations before Open Championship
Tiger Woods completed his final preparations for the 144th Open Championship at the Old Course in St. Andrews, Scotland, on Wednesday. Tiger participated in the annual Champion Golfers’ Challenge, a four-hole exhibition that pairs past winners, with the low team earning $156,452 to be donated to the charity of their choice.
Woods played on Team Weiskopf with Tom Weiskopf, Nick Price and Mark O’Meara. Each played his own ball on the first, second, 17th and 18th holes, and they combined to shoot 3-under par. That score tied for first with three other teams, but Team Palmer — Arnold Palmer, Paul Lawrie, Darren Clarke and Bill Rogers — were declared the winners by having the highest average age.
“It was an honor to play at the home of golf with three great friends and legends,” Tiger said afterward.
Woods also attended a Rolex function with Palmer and former tennis great Rod Laver.
A three-time Open champion — twice at St. Andrews — Tiger begins first-round play Thursday at 4:55 a.m. ET with Jason Day and Louis Oosthuizen.
