Giving Tuesday: Support scholars like Tim
Timothy Nguyen’s journey from Nha Trang, Vietnam, at the age of 2 to UCLA was anything but effortless. For the Earl Woods Scholar alum, the road was paved with language barriers, financial hardships and personal struggles, but those roadblocks made Nguyen’s victory all the sweeter.
With a bachelor’s degree in biology, Nguyen, a first-generation college student, made a name for himself within the research labs at UCLA. With his focus on prostate cancer, Nguyen and his team have found six-to-eight additional biomarkers, which will one day lead to more accurate prostate cancer detection. With his findings soon to be published and plans for medical school in the future, Nguyen personifies the power of passion and determination.
