Donor Spotlight: Aptive Environmental supports Earl Woods Scholars on path to college and career success

“Together” is a word that has been used frequently throughout the course of the pandemic. As TGR Foundation navigates life in a new season of change and uncertainty, the support from its community is essential to its ability to continue meeting the needs of students, families and educators.

TGR Foundation’s partnership with Aptive Environmental began in 2019 with their pledge to support the Earl Woods Scholar Program. Aptive recognized the academic accomplishments of two students in the Class of 2023 and provided financial support for their collegiate career.

Like the hundreds of Earl Woods Scholars attending universities across the country, Kayla Fisher and Jesse Aguirre leaned on the support of the program and continue to excel in the classroom and beyond.

“We are grateful to Aptive Environmental for their investment into our students and the program,” said Cristina Fernandez, Senior Director of Programs. “Jesse and Kayla are thriving in the classroom and beyond as they work toward their college and career goals, and we’ll continue to support them along their journeys.”

Outside of his full-time course load as a Psychology and Political Science double-major at Boston College, Jesse spends his free time working as an Instacart Shopper and lifeguard. He’s also seeking internship opportunities to gain experience as he works toward graduation and the start of his professional career.

Paying forward her experiences and ongoing support from the Earl Woods Scholar Program and Aptive Environmental, Kayla is an active member of The Pact, a personal mentoring organization designed to help high school students on their path to college. Through the knowledge and experiences from her coursework as a Psychology major, Kayla has recognized the importance of mental health and is currently working to create a student organization with a peer-mentorship design for students on her campus. She devotes her free time to extra-curricular activities that allow her to express herself creatively, like her involvement on the step team at the University of Rochester, as well as care for her friends and family.

Through dedicated mentors and ongoing and meaningful connections through TGR Foundation staff, the Earl Woods Scholar Program provides students the holistic support needed to help them overcome obstacles on their path to college and career success.

“Through all of my adversities, the Earl Woods Scholar Program has been there every step of the way, encouraging and uplifting me,” said Kayla. “Being an Earl Woods Scholar not only guarantees financial aid, but it gives me support and guidance. It means having infinite possibilities.”

Developed in 2015 to “provide a stellar service that makes homes everywhere safer, more secure and free of pests and problems,” Aptive Environmental’s support of the program and students is reflective of their commitment to improving communities around the world while empowering the next generation. As a self-proclaimed “family business,” its generosity toward Kayla, Jesse and the Earl Woods Scholar Program proves that “together” we can empower students through education and help them exceed their goals.
