DBC Rewind: Browne makes triumphant return to the winner’s circle

Labor Day weekend is a time for barbecues, fireworks, family gatherings and professional golf. Every year, the top 100 professional golfers on the PGA TOUR file into Norton, Massachusetts, to compete for the Wedgwood Cup in the Deutsche Bank Championship.

Since its inception in 2003, professionals such as Adam Scott and Vijay Singh have won the championship in spectacular fashion. However, in 2005, a new champion was crowned. After a six-year hiatus from a win on the PGA TOUR, Olin Browne defeated Jason Bohn and took home the coveted Wedgwood Cup. Browne was thrilled at the opportunity to be back in the winner’s circle: “Well, I’m not sure I can really put it into words. It’s been quite a while, six years or so. … I couldn’t be happier about the way I played.” 

Browne played exceptionally well Monday, getting off to a strong start. When asked about his best shots for the day, Browne said, “I hit a good shot on 1. I hit a good iron shot following that up and I made sure I didn’t drive it in the bunkers on 2. You know, if you can get under par early, it sets the tone for the day, so that’s significant.”

Browne carded a 67 for the final day of play.
