Businesswomen shared advice, stories and insight at Executive Women’s Day
Keynote speaker Carey Lohrenz, Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts Karyn Polito and others recounted their personal experiences and lessons they have learned to more than 80 New England businesswomen at Executive Women’s Day, sponsored by Astellas..
The day kicked off with tournament director Mike Antolini sharing a few words about the “can’t-miss event” that is Executive Women’s Day and the Deutsche Bank Championship. He described the event as a “true community vehicle” to local New England businesses. Antolini was followed by Polito, who spoke on the importance of having a “champion” in your life, meaning someone who believes in you and constantly reminds you that, “you can be whatever you want to be.” Polito’s champions, she stated, are her parents.
After Polito, a panel hosted by CSN New England reporter Trenni Kusnierek discussed balancing work and personal life, leadership qualities and tips to succeed in the work place. Panelists included Kathy Bihr, vice president of programs & education at the Tiger Woods Foundation, Ashton Goodfield, portfolio manager at Deutsche Assets & Wealth Management, Jane Steinmetz, principal at Ernst & Young, and Angella Franklin, strategic account director at CVS Health.
The day wrapped with Lohrenz, the first female F-14 Tomcat Fighter Pilot in the U.S. Navy, discussing details from her military experience and lessons she learned from the cockpit. Lohrenz, a published author and MBA candidate, described how she discovered that the key differentiator of successful teams is their ability to know and focus on their true purpose. Lohrenz also explained how she learned to prioritize by “understanding what matters most” to herself and her team.
