Attending college has changed my life tremendously
The College Prep Program focuses on 11th-grade students in the Anaheim Union High School District. The program opens students to the option of attending small, private liberal-arts colleges. Tiger Woods Foundation staff supports students from junior-to senior year and throughout college life.
Katrina Obieta reflects on her experience in the scholarship program and the opportunities that have come out of it.
What is one of the ways the college prep program has impacted my life?
KO: Introducing the idea of liberal arts education to me. I was looking a public and private schools in California, and mostly big name schools. I would have never even looked at Bryn Mawr if it wasn’t for the program. Bryn Mawr is such an amazing college and it has made such a difference in my life.
What is one of the greatest benefits to being part of the college prep program?
KO: For me, it is the family that develops between other scholars, who I’m so close to today. Attending college has changed my life tremendously, by influencing the opportunities that I have had. In my family it was never a question of if I was going to go to college or not, but a question of where. The opportunities I’ve had because of college have increased dramatically every year that I stay in college. Now that I’m about to graduate this spring, I’m very hopeful to see what other opportunities present themselves to me after I graduate.
