Woods cards 4-under 67 to coast past Kuchar
Tiger Woods shot a 4-under-par 67 Wednesday to easily beat Ryder Cup teammate Matt Kuchar in his second match of the $5.2 million Turkish Airlines World Golf Final at the Sultan course at Antalya Golf Club in Belek, Turkey. Kuchar finished with a 72.
The much-anticipated afternoon match between Tiger and Rory McIlroy was postponed until Thursday morning due to torrential rains and thunderstorms. Following that match, the top two players from two groups of four participants in the round-robin event will advance to the semifinals.
Woods lost his first match to Charl Schwartzel, who leads Pool A with two points. That means Woods is now second at 1-1, followed by Kuchar (1-1) and McIlroy (0-2).
In Pool B competition, Justin Rose leads the way at 2-0 and is trailed by Lee Westwood (1-1), Webb Simpson (1-1) and Hunter Mahan (0-2).
“I don’t have much to play for, so I would like to beat him so he doesn’t go through to the semifinals and also to get some bragging rights,” McIlroy said of his match against Woods.
