Tiger to face Howell III at Accenture Match Play

Tiger Woods tuned up for this week’s WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship by playing 18 holes with a vacationing President Barack Obama on Sunday at The Floridian Golf Club in Palm City, Fla. The duo was joined by Jim Crane, owner of the resort and the Houston Astros, and Ron Kirk, a U.S. Trade Representative.

On Wednesday, Tiger will oppose Charles Howell III at 2:25 p.m. ET in a first-round match at The Golf Club at Dove Mountain in Marana, Ariz., located in the foothills northwest of Tucson. A three-time winner of the Match Play Championship, Woods tied for 17th last year.

This marks the second PGA TOUR start for Tiger in 2013. He made his season debut in the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines Golf Course and won by four strokes, carding his 75th career win.

The Accenture Match Play Championship is the first in a busy stretch for Woods, who will play three consecutive tournaments. Next up is The Honda Classic, Feb. 28-March 3 at PGA National Champion Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. He will also compete in the WGC-Cadillac Championship, March 7-10 at TPC Blue Monster at Doral in Miami. Tiger has won the Cadillac Championship six times, and also captured the Ford Championship twice at Doral.
