Tiger to compete next at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational

Tiger Woods will return to competition next week in the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio, he announced Tuesday. He has won the tournament a record seven times, most recently in 2009, and has posted 12 top-10 finishes in 13 starts.

Last year, Tiger tied for eighth, nine strokes behind winner Keegan Bradley. But Woods played well on the weekend, shooting 68-66 on the par-70 South Course.

“This is one of my favorite courses,” Tiger said. “There is nothing tricky about it; everything is right in front of you. And the fans do a great job of supporting the event.”

The top-ranked Woods, coming off a tie for sixth last week at The Open Championship, leads the PGA TOUR with four victories this year. He ranks first in FedExCup points, money earnings and scoring, and is fourth in putting.
