Tiger completes 10 holes at Turkish Airlines Open

Heavy rain and lightning caused a three-hour delay before the start of the Turkish Airlines Open at The Montgomerie Maxx Royal in Antalya, Turkey, on Thursday. Top-ranked Tiger Woods completed 10 holes and was 1-under-par when play was suspended due to darkness.

Only a handful of players finished their rounds. Five players shared the early first-round lead at 7-under-par, but all had additional holes to play.

Paired with Henrik Stenson and Justin Rose, Woods made two birdies and one bogey on the front nine and shot a 1-under 35.

Looking rusty off the tee, Tiger made a short birdie putt at the par-5 first hole, then rattled off six straight pars. He poured in a 35-foot birdie putt at the 180-yard, par-3 eighth, but gave it back with a bogey at the par-4 ninth. At No. 9, he hit a wayward drive, came up short of the green with his second shot and two-putted.

Woods gave himself a good birdie chance at the par-4 10th, knocking his approach shot about eight feet above the hole, but he missed the left-to-right putt.

Tiger flushed a big drive at the 576-yard, par-5 11th, then crushed a 3-wood from 287 yards just short of the green on the right. While he was walking to his ball, a siren blew, signifying players could finish the hole or stop play, and his group decided to stop.

Play will resume at 1 a.m. Eastern Time/8 a.m. local time Friday morning, with the second round to follow. There are 78 players competing and there is no cut.
