Castro, Spieth lead with Round 2 play suspended

The second round of the AT&T National at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md., has been suspended due to bad weather. Play will resume Saturday morning at 7 a.m. ET.

First-round leader Roberto Castro remained at the top of the leaderboard. After opening with a 5-under-par 66 on Thursday, he shot a 69 on Friday. Castro is tied with 19-year-old Jordan Spieth at 7-under 135.

Spieth, the former University of Texas star, is playing on a sponsor exemption. He carded five front-nine birdies and recorded a 66, hitting all 18 greens in regulation.

“It felt good to play two rounds under par,” Castro said. “It’s a very hard golf course.”

D.H. Lee also completed 36 holes and stands in third place at 137. He fired a 66 on Friday.

Past winner Nick Watney is 2-under through eight holes and is 3-under for the tournament. Not as fortunate was another ex-champion, K.J. Choi, who shot 76 on Friday. He has a 36-hole score of 146, which is expected to be outside the projected cut line of 2-over-par.

When second-round play is completed Saturday morning, the cut will be established and players will be sent out in threesomes on both nines in the afternoon. First place in the tournament is worth $1.17 million.
