Tiger kicks off year at Farmers Insurance Open
Tiger Woods firmed up his first two events of 2014 this week by committing to the Farmers Insurance Open, Jan. 23-26, and the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, Jan. 30-Feb. 2.
Woods has been a dominating force at picturesque, ocean-lined Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla, Calif., winning eight times. Last year, Tiger scored a four-stroke victory in the Farmers Insurance Open, marking his seventh win in the tournament. He also won the 2008 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines.
“Obviously, I’ve had a great deal of success at Torrey,” said the No. 1 ranked Woods, coming off a five-win PGA TOUR campaign in 2013. “Both courses suit my eye. Hopefully, I can use the tournament as a springboard to a big 2014 season.”
Tiger will compete in Omega Dubai Desert Classic at Emirates Golf Club for the seventh time. He posted wins in 2006 and 2008, joining Ernie Els as the only multiple-time winner of the event.
“I appreciate the support I have received from the people in Dubai, and I have always enjoyed playing in the tournament,” Woods said. “They always attract a strong field, and the course is in top shape.”
The longest-running European Tour event in Asia, the Dubai Desert Classic is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
