Tiger Woods Learning Center fall program preview
Tiger Woods Learning Centers (TWLC) across the nation are gearing up for their fall programming to begin. Students will participate in hands-on learning experiences that provide them with the skills and tools needed to pursue a potential career in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Here is a glimpse of what our sites are offering this fall.
Florida (Murray Middle School):
Middle school students will travel through the world of game design to create their very own video game. From designing levels to developing sprite animations for their characters, they will learn about exciting elements in creating a great game in the video game design course.
Philadelphia (KIPP-DuBois Collegiate Academy and Cristo Rey):
Students who attend KIPP DuBois Collegiate Academy will have the opportunity to “tinker” in wearable electronics and create their own computer program in the coding course at the Tiger Woods Learning Center located on their campus. Close by, at the TWLC at Cristo Rey High School, students will be able to expand their knowledge of robotics by taking a course in advanced robotics.
Virginia (Marine Corps Base Quantico):
Middle school students of military households who live on or near the Marine Corps Base Quantico can take a course in video game design and discover the skills necessary to solve crimes in the forensic science course.
Washington, D.C. (Capitol Hill and Parkside):
Middle and high school students at both campuses can design, program and test their own robot in an EV3 Robotics course. Students can also take a course in video game design and produce their own movie in the video production course. Students at the TWLC Parkside campus will form a FIRST Robotics Lego League team and put their programming and engineering skills to the test at various competitions.
California (TWLC-Orange County):
At the flagship location in Anaheim, California, middle and high school students will be offered a variety of classes including: wearable electronics, video game design, power of chemistry, intro to hip-hop and much more. TWLC-OC will also be piloting a Communities of Tomorrow course where students will develop a project plan, and design and engineer their own virtual city. Twelfth-grade students can participate in monthly College Bound Academy workshops that focus on college admission and the financial aid process for any four-year university. Finally, students and parents throughout Southern California will be able to attend regional information nights hosted by various universities.
As one can see, Tiger Woods Learning Centers will be active this fall in providing a variety of STEM-related opportunities for students to successfully navigate their own paths to success this school year.
