Tiger Woods commits to Quicken Loans National

Quicken Loans National tournament host Tiger Woods announced Wednesday his commitment to compete in the 2015 event at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, July 27-Aug. 2.

The two-time champion has provided dramatic moments filled with fist pumps and cheers. Let’s relive Tiger’s Quicken Loans National history as we look forward to this year’s competition.

POTUS tees it up

In its inaugural year, the 2007 Quicken Loans National claimed its territory in the DMV sports landscape with host Woods. After carding rounds of 73-66-69-70, Tiger tied for eighth, seven strokes back of champion K.J. Choi. The week commenced with the tournament’s dedication to our nation’s armed forces, with a special guest appearance from President George H.W. Bush, who hit the ceremonial first tee shot.

Tiger claims the crown

Tiger captured his first Quicken Loans National victory in 2009 at Congressional Country Club. Tiger secured his one-stroke victory with five birdies against one bogey, despite Hunter Mahan breaking the course record with a final-round 62. Tiger still shares the 72-hole record for the Quicken Loans National with Nick Watney, who had a total of 267 in 2009.

A second shot at victory

At the 2012 Quicken Loans National, Tiger tallied his 74th PGA TOUR win with a two-stroke victory over Bo Van Pelt. The 14-time major champion captured his second Quicken Loans National victory behind the strength of 11 birdies, an eagle and five bogeys throughout the week.
